Celebrate with us: World Baking Day

Julia Canella | Inspiration | 14 May 2026

When it comes to scrumptious baked treats, we'll find just about any excuse to celebrate #WorldBakingDay (Sunday 17th May).

As we honour this annual salute to baking – which encourages people worldwide to bake, share, and enjoy homemade treats – we share musings and tips from some of our Linen House home bakers on how they approach their baking rituals.

The sweet treats thread

Jacinta | graphic designer: "Making a cheeky sweet treat is a must at some point in my week. It's my feel-good, treat-yourself ritual as we approach the depths of winter. The mid-week pub sesh swaps for nights in with a fluffy robe, an electric blanket cranked to the hilts, and tiramisù piled high in my fave martini glass. It's the highlight of my week."

Belinda, product manager: "Weekend cooking and baking is my must to get on top of the week ahead for work, school and every other activity. I turn up the tunes, whack on my trusty apron and oven gloves, and create all those sweet-smelling, comforting meals I love to create, so we're fed – and well!"

Julia, copywriter: "Baking cakes, biscuits, galettes and absolutely anything else in my kitchen is without fail, best accompanied with a powerful, vibey Spotify playlist to keep me focused against potential baking disasters, along with a glass of wine or pot of strong coffee. Sometimes, baking utensils and patience help too."

Tanis, ecomm coordinator: "Baking evokes fond memories of my mother, who starts Christmas baking months in advance. These days, it’s my unwind and switch-off go-to: following a recipe, slowing down, and not having to think too hard about anything else. After a lifetime of discovering and fine-tuning recipes, I’ve learnt you cannot go past a trusty tea towel: part pot holder, part oven glove, part spill cleaner: an all-round lifesaver wrapped-up in one."

Georgie, textile designer: "My must-haves for baking: relaxing tunes, a mug of hot coffee, and my favourite apron. Baked goods are best shared hot from the oven, snuggled on the couch, in my flannelette pyjamas."
