A few words from our founder, Michele Duncan, on what International Women's Day means to her.
International Women’s Day praises women of all ages, all races, all over the world.
Little girls with open minds, eager to learn – trusting and confident and glowing.
Young girls who want to do everything young boys do, but better.
Teenage girls who are blossoming and changing, and confident and clever.
And in the following decades women steadfastly build relationships, study and teach, work in every segment of industry and education conceivable, contribute to society, foster creative skills, create, nurture and support families.
Women make babies and homes, and their arms provide safe havens.
International Women’s Day makes me yearn for the day when all women, of all ages, are given equal rights and respect.
That opportunities exist for a woman to excel in whatever subject or career path she wishes.
That she is born to live freely. That she feels loved, appreciated and safe in this world.
For women and men to walk side by side, and respect each other.
Most importantly, women need to support other women. Mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, nieces, grandmothers, friends, teachers – we need to always have each other’s backs.
Do we need to be reminded of how awesome, capable and beautiful women are?
Why not? Let’s shout it out to the world!
