Our Kate Talks About The Creative Spark

Julia Canella | Inspiration | 06 November 2023

Curious about how concepts crop-up and flourish for our bed linen and homewares collections?

One of our favourite online lifestyle and culture publications, The Latch, quizzes three local super-creatives on what sparks their imaginations.

Our senior textile designer, Kate Hill, shares with Sangeeta Kocharekar what gets her and her team members into the flow for designing our products.

"Like most things in life, I think all creative people are wired differently. Some people may find themselves most creative late at night or early in the morning, in nature, with music or without. I remember at university, some colleagues stayed up all night doing assessments. For me, this would not work."

“I find myself most creative first thing in the morning when my brain is refreshed and clear. This is the time when I usually do my most challenging work — whether it be painting or drawing. Then, in the afternoon, when the brain becomes more tired, it is available to do ‘easier’ jobs such as re-colouring, creating repeat patterns or trend researching."

“If I'm struggling with creativity on a particular day, I definitely try a walk or a run in fresh air, preferably in nature. Then, I tap into my work colleagues for assistance. Working in a team is always so useful in this way — you always have an extra eye or ear for when you need help.”
